Research on the Influences of COVID-19 to Early Childhood Education and Care Institutions in Japan

The spread of Covid-19 has affected early childhood education and care (ECEC) facilities in many ways, and we conducted a "Survey on Response and Impact Related to Covid-19 in ECEC Facilities" from April to May 2020, when the first emergency declaration was issued. As a center that researches early childhood development, ECEC practices and policies, we believed that it was important to conduct research and understand the impacts at ECEC facilities and home, based on the voices of the field.

Since then, the impact of Covid-19 has not been fully resolved and is still ongoing, and as the impact of Covid-19 has been prolonged, we recognized the need to continue to investigate the actual impact on child development and long-term stress on childcare providers, etc. A web-based survey of preschool principals was conducted five times beginning in August 2021.
